　　第二季故事描述南方某小镇来的律师Josh Segal（Nicholas D’Agosto）刚刚在纽约站稳脚跟。虽然他为人热情大方，但他过分朴素的背景无法给他带来任何好处。他为了事业有所突破（办理另外一起大案）而顽强奋斗，现在机会终于来了……东佩克（East Peck）的「第一夫人」Lavinia Peck-Foster（Kristin Chenoweth）找他来打一场官司。这个衣着过分华丽、戴着大帽子、牵着斯芬克斯无毛猫、多年来没出过豪宅半步的大富婆突然成了一宗离奇命案的头号嫌疑人，死者不是别人……正是她心爱的丈夫Edgar。Edgar的尸体被人塞进了一个大箱子，而这个箱子偏偏是在Lavinia的汽车后备箱里被找到的。Lavinia平时过分招摇，性格乖戾，树敌太多。她和别人打招呼的方式不是握手，不是拥抱，而是刚见面就扇一个耳光……然后撒给对方一沓钱。无所谓，反正她富得流油，这点小钱不算什么。
